Featured Product: Chelsea Harbour Master Clock, Mechanical Time Only Limited Edition Clock

https://bellclocks.com/collections/collector-limited-edition-clocks/products/chelsea-harbour-master-16e-clock

We are proud to reintroduce the Chelsea Harbour Master Clock featuring the 16E Mechanical Movement, which was originally manufactured by Chelsea Clock in the early 1960s. This classic timepiece has been discontinued for over 30 years, and is back in limited production.

This non-striking timepiece features a 16E movement — the same precise, time-only mechanism as its predecessor— hand assembled by master clockmakers in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

The clock also features a solid, forged-brass case with a profile that’s slimmer than that of our traditional Ship’s Bell (2.88” deep versus 3.38” deep). Plus, it includes a hinge bezel and a 6” hand-silvered brass dial with black enameled Arabic numerals and full-moon style minute and hour hands.

This exquisite clock also includes a seconds orbit—or “small sweep seconds hand”—directly below the 12 o’clock position (sub dial). Additionally, the piece includes a “Fast & Slow” regulator switch adjacent to the 3 o’clock position.

Ship's Bell Story

Mariners have used a unique bell code to tell time at sea for hundreds of years. The code is based on the crew's typical workday routine while the vessel is under way. A ship at sea requires constant attention throughout the day's twenty-four hours. The day is therefore divided into six four-hour periods, each called a "watch." Similarly, the crew is segmented into three divisions. Division members then stand their individually assigned duties on two watches per day, with eight hours off duty between watches. To rotate each division's watch times, the Evening Watch is periodically divided into two watches. These are called Dog Watches because they "dog" the watch schedule for all divisions ahead by one watch period.
